Department of Environmental Geography, UGM successfully passed 2 teams in the 9th Green Base National Paper Competition organized by Resource and Environmental Economics Student Association (REESA) and the Student Executive Board, Faculty of Economics and Management, Bogor Agricultural Institute. First team consisted of Yan Abdi Rahmanu, Dicky Satria Dwiputra, and Gagad Nur Ridho (GEL2015) guided by Dr.rer.nat Muhammad Anggri Setyawan, M.Sc. raised the theme of morphoconservation mapping in the Bompon Sub-watershed, Magelang. Second team consisted of Cahyadi Ramadhan, Najmah Munawaroh and Aji Dwi Pratama (GEL2015) raised the theme of GIS-based fishing calendar.

Reinaldy Pratama Poetra (GEL 2014), Melati Ayuning Putri (GEL 2014), and Anindya Arma Risanti (GEL 2014) from the Department of Environmental Geography did intenship (partical work) for one month (1 July – 1 August 2018) at Geothermal Site, PT Pertamina Area Kamojang, West Java. Three students did an internship in the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Division on the topic of environmental hydrology under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sudarmadji, M.Sc.Eng. Practical work was carried out in four stages; (1) Introduction of areas, systems and work operations, (2) Identification of problems in the HSSE field, (3) Planning of operational quality improvement technical solutions, (4) Final presentation.
Environmental Geography Student, UGM, selected as the Indonesian delegate in the Tribal Climate Camp 2017 forum in Washington, USA on July 30-August 7, 2017. Aditya Pradana (GEL2014) was elected as Indonesia’s representative after previously being awarded as the Best Delegate in Youth Leadership Camp for Climate Change 2017 held at Cibodas Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO, UNITAR, UN CC: Learn and The Climate Reality Project Indonesia. Aditya Pradana and Futuha Helen Sara (GEL2014), along with Irvandias Sanjaya (Psychology), Sapnah Rahmawati (SV) and Noviana Nur Sari (Biology) also won the Team of the Year category in the Cibodas event held on February 4-6 2017. Awards given because the Team succeeded in showing active dedication and contribution through making programs for 3 months, including organizing peer education forums, disability for climate change, climate campaigns, and community programs based on climate change issues.
Mini Orienteering Excursion 2018 held on Saturday, September 29th 2018 at 07.00 until 15.00. The participants are students of the Department of Environmental Geography 2018.
Mini Orienteering was held as an introduction to the environment of the Faculty of Geography campus and its surroundings. This activity is carried out by inviting students of the 2018 Environmental Geography around the campus environment by walking along the route and following the instructions given. The instructions given are in the form of coordinates. Travel routes include posts that have been provided by the committee, containing geography learning posts filled in by the committee. Geography learning held in this activity includes spatial thinking, meteorology and climatology, cartography, and interpretation of remote sensing images.
Soil Science field course 2018 was held at Bompon Magelang Watersheds, Central Java. Participants included 3 lecturer, 191 students, 16 practicum assistant and 2 laboratory staff.
Day one (Friday, August 24th 2018)
Disaster management students along with Environmental Geomorphology and Disaster Mitigation Laboratory implement field practicum of Disaster Management studies in Donoharjo Village, Ngaglik Sub-District, Sleman District on Friday, November 23th 2018.
The field practice contains observation activities such as interviews with residents and local village institutions. Then proceed with the presentation of material from Pujiono Centre located in Donoharjo Village.
The discussion in field practice contains application of Resilient Villages or Desa Tangguh Bencana (Destana) which are adapted to the regulation of the Chairperson of BNBP No.1 in 2012. Students which are involved at this event delivered mind map about Donoharjo’s Desa Tanggap Bencana and presented at the end of the event.
