Reinaldy Pratama Poetra (GEL 2014), Melati Ayuning Putri (GEL 2014), and Anindya Arma Risanti (GEL 2014) from the Department of Environmental Geography did intenship (partical work) for one month (1 July – 1 August 2018) at Geothermal Site, PT Pertamina Area Kamojang, West Java. Three students did an internship in the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Division on the topic of environmental hydrology under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sudarmadji, M.Sc.Eng. Practical work was carried out in four stages; (1) Introduction of areas, systems and work operations, (2) Identification of problems in the HSSE field, (3) Planning of operational quality improvement technical solutions, (4) Final presentation.
Practical work focuses on activities in the river hydrology system in the Kamojang area, wastewater treatment system, hydrological quality, and stress test results of operational activities in an effort to minimize the impact on the environment. Besides formal activities, the students also routinely join sharing on CSR programs and community observations. “The internship has a positive impact on students in introducing the world of work, solving problems in the company’s operations as well to sharing the expertise of environmental geography to the industry focusing on energy,” Reinaldy said. Internships also help strengthen connectivity and synergy between practical institutions (PT. Pertamina Geothermal Energy) and academic institutions (Universitas Gadjah Mada).
