Environmental Geography Student, UGM, selected as the Indonesian delegate in the Tribal Climate Camp 2017 forum in Washington, USA on July 30-August 7, 2017. Aditya Pradana (GEL2014) was elected as Indonesia’s representative after previously being awarded as the Best Delegate in Youth Leadership Camp for Climate Change 2017 held at Cibodas Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO, UNITAR, UN CC: Learn and The Climate Reality Project Indonesia. Aditya Pradana and Futuha Helen Sara (GEL2014), along with Irvandias Sanjaya (Psychology), Sapnah Rahmawati (SV) and Noviana Nur Sari (Biology) also won the Team of the Year category in the Cibodas event held on February 4-6 2017. Awards given because the Team succeeded in showing active dedication and contribution through making programs for 3 months, including organizing peer education forums, disability for climate change, climate campaigns, and community programs based on climate change issues.
Aditya’s participation as well with alumnae Sukma Riverningtyas (GEL2012) in the 2017 Tribal Climate Camp USA, which was attended by 64 delegates from various countries, was a platform for climate change activists to discuss and share experiences on best practices in the field of environment and climate. The conference focused on the formulation of climate change adaptation and mitigation agendas in vulnerable communities. The activities include the Courses, Workshop, Working Team on Policy Strategy, Climate Communication, and Community Field to Nisqually Tribes and National Park as well as Fieldtrip to Mt. Train National Park which has problems with melting glaciers. On this occasion, Aditya also had the opportunity to explain the social media strategy in the climate campaign, as well as how to downstreaming research and development of climate resilience communities from frost disasters in the Dieng Plateau which was also a PKM project of the Environmental Geography Department under the guidance of Dr. Emilya Nurjani, M.Sc. “Through this forum, we understand that intergenerational collaboration is needed to realize the global climate change agenda stated in the Paris Agreement and create a more favorable climate condition,” he explained.
