The National Seminar and Exhibition on Dissemination of Superior Applied Research Results from Higher Education in the Bompon Sub-Watershed, organized by the UGM Center for Land Resource Management Studies, featured several lecturers from the Department of Environmental Geography as speakers. The seminar, held offline on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the Hall of the Regional Government Complex (Pemda) of Magelang Regency, aimed to address the reduction of risk associated with disasters such as droughts, erosion, and landslides resulting from rainwater runoff from residential areas and agricultural land in the Transition Landscape Zone of the Sumbing Quaternary Volcano and the Kulonprogo Tertiary Volcano in Central Java.
The Department of Environmental Geography received a Comparative Study visit from the Geography Education Study Program, Faculty of FKIP, Khairun University. The main agenda for the comparative study is discussion and discussion regarding the KKNI Curriculum. The event will take place on Tuesday, July 5 2022.

Prof. Dr. Eko Haryono, M.Si., was officially inaugurated as a professor in geomorphology at the UGM Faculty of Geography, Tuesday (21/6). His inaugural speech of geomorphology delivered under the title “Morpho-Hydrogeological Approaches in the Management of Karst Areas”.

On June 9, 2022, the Center for Population Studies (PSKK) at UGM hosted a seminar with the theme “Synergy of Social Protection Policy, Climate Change and Disasters – Design, Challenges and Implementation of the Policy”. Among the speakers was Dr. Dyah Rahmawati Hizbaron, S.Si., M.T., M.Sc., an expert in Disaster Studies at UGM’s Department of Environmental Geography.
Dr. Hizbaron’s presentation contributed to the seminar’s objective of exploring the intersections of social protection policy, climate change, and disasters. As a lecturer in an esteemed academic department, Dr. Hizbaron is well-versed in the complexities of this field and brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the seminar.

The participatory landslide mapping and inventory method based on the VGI application is a promising method for producing landslide inventory maps. This research explains the process of developing and implementing the use of the VGI application in mapping landslide points in a participatory manner. Success was demonstrated by the compilation of a map of landslide-prone areas in the study area, namely Magelang Regency, Central Java Province, Indonesia. The landslide points mapped include the intermountain basin area surrounded by the Menoreh Mountains, Merapi Volcano, Merbabu Volcano, Suropati-Telomoyo Volcano Complex, and Sumbing Volcano.
Dr. Sukamdi, M.Sc participated in a book review event titled “From Colonization to Nation State,” authored by Dr. Riwanto Tirtosudarmo, M.A. The Center for Population and Policy Studies (PSKK) UGM organized the event, which took place on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the Prof. Agus Dwiyanto Masri Singarimbun Building Auditorium, PSKK UGM. Dr. Sukamdi’s appearance at the event highlights his commitment to academic excellence and his contribution to the ongoing discourse on the subject matter.
The “Human and Environment” discussion is a routine event of the UGM Center for Environmental Studies (PSLH) which on Monday, May 23 2022 was held online with the title Digital Transformation of Environmental Licensing and Supervision for Controlling Water Pollution.
Dr. M. Pramono Hadi, the Head of the Center for Environmental Studies UGM and also a lecturer at the Department of Environmental Geography shared knowledge as one of the speakers at this event. This edition of the “Human and Environment” crowdfunding process was accompanied by Dr. M. Widyastuti (Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Geography) as moderator.
