The Environmental Geomorphology and Disaster Mitigation Laboratory (GLMB) FGE UGM held an offline seminar entitled “Mangrove Geo-Ecology” at the Siti Nurbaya Center FGE UGM, Tuesday (12/12) 2023. The main speaker at this seminar was Prof. Toyohiko Miyagi (Department of Regional, Tohoku-Gakuin University, Japan). Lecturers from the Department of Environmental Geography are also part of the seminar speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Djati Mardiatno, S.Si., M.Si. and Dr. Mukhamad Ngainul Malawani, S.Si., M.Sc. as a doctoral candidate in Geography at the UGM Faculty of Geography with the presentation title “Tracing the Volcanic Impacts of the 1257 CE Samalas Eruption Using Indigenous Written Sources”.
During the Policy Conference UI 2023 with the theme”Building Indonesia’s Global Centrality in the Electric Vehicle Industry”, organized by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) Chapter Universitas Indonesia participants from the Environmental Geography study program earned the second-place honor (first runner-up) under the titled “Menuju Elektrifikasi Indonesia: Pemberdayaan Generasi Muda untuk Meraih Posisi Unggul Global dalam Industri Kendaraan Listrik”.

During the Global Award on Disaster Resilience 2023 (U-DARE 1.0) organized by Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, participants from the Environmental Geography study program earned the first-place honor in Disaster Short Movie Category under the titled “Antologi Merapi: Lahar tak Gentar”.

In November 2023, the Department of Environmental Geography graduated as many as 46 graduates. The Department of Environmental Geography’s extended family expresses their utmost condolences on the passing of Mr. Dr. M. Pramono Hadi, M.Sc. (Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Geography, Faculty of Geography, Gadjah Mada University) on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Our thoughts are with the family left behind, and we hope that they are given patience and fortitude during this challenging time. We pray that the late Husnul Khatimah be given the best place by His side.

The monthly discussion organized by the Hydrology and Environmental Climatology Laboratory on Wednesday, August 30 2023 was held online via the zoom page in two sessions. The first session was material from Prof. Anyi Hu (Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Science) with the title “Using high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies to profile environmental microbiome”. The second session was filled with material from Dr. Mohammad Pramono Hadi, M.Sc. as Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Geography with the title “Water pollution management in IKN (Capital of the Archipelago)”.
In August 2023, the Department of Environmental Geography graduated as many as 59 . The UGM Faculty of Geography in collaboration with the Graduate School of Frontier Science, University of Tokyo (UTokyo) will hold a Joint Workshop in order to strengthen tridharma cooperation. The event will be held online on Tuesday, June 20 2023.
