The webinar series on “Disaster Resilient Settlements in Robust Prone Areas” hosted its 34th session, featuring esteemed speaker Dr. Dyah Rahmawati Hizbaron, S.Si., M.T., M.Sc. from the Department of Environmental Geography. Dr. Hizbaron provided an insightful presentation on the causes of tidal flood disasters, including global warming, changes in ideal watershed conditions due to upstream waste material, decreased river storage capacity, and excessive use of groundwater.
The title of the webinar refers to a disaster that frequently occurs on the north coast of Java Island, particularly in Demak Regency, resulting in various problems such as slum settlements, damaged infrastructure, psychological impacts on affected residents, and losses due to building retrofitting costs. The webinar aimed to review the efforts to create tidal disaster-resilient settlements and mitigation strategies for tidal disasters.
The webinar provided an opportunity for attendees to gain insights into the causes of tidal flood disasters and their impact on communities.
